BlackRock submits application to list staked Ether ETF
U.S. asset manager BlackRock has applied to list and trade shares of a vehicle linked to staked Ether, expanding on its lineup of cryptocurrency-focused products.
In a Friday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the firm submitted a Form S-1 for the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust exchange-traded fund. The S-1 is part of the SEC’s review process for listing products such as ETFs and does not imply approval.
The shares of the staked Ether (ETH) fund, which BlackRock plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ETHB, would be among the first tied to staked crypto assets. Grayscale Investments added staking features to its already approved spot ETH and mini ETH trusts in October.
The SEC has approved few crypto staking funds since clearing spot Ether ETFs in May 2024. Canary Capital filed for a staked Injective (INJ) product in July, and Grayscale and Bitwise introduced separate Solana (SOL) staking products in October.
BlackRock also manages the largest spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
Coinbase resumes India push, two years after exit
U.S.-based crypto exchange Coinbase is reentering the Indian market following a two-year absence.
Coinbase has reopened app registrations in India and plans to introduce local fiat on-ramps in 2026, Coinbase APAC director John O’Loghlen said at India Blockchain Week (IBW), according to a Sunday report by TechCrunch.
The move comes more than two years after the exchange halted certain local services in September 2023, following a difficult rollout of its India-focused platform launched in 2022.
“We had millions of customers in India, historically, and we took a very clear stance to off-board those customers entirely from overseas entities, where they were domiciled and regulated. Because we wanted to kind of burn the boats, have a clean slate here,” O’Loghlen said.
As onboarding restarts, Indian users can immediately access crypto-to-crypto trading.
The exchange began admitting users through an early-access program in October, around the time it appointed Karan Malik as India marketing lead.
Malik previously led marketing for last year’s IBW event; this year, Coinbase participated as a platinum sponsor.
“Last year, I was leading the charge and building the marketing and brand playbook for IBW. This year, I’m bringing Coinbase to the party,” he said.
In response to an inquiry about its relaunch in India, a Coinbase spokesperson said the company’s FIU registration in March enables it to offer crypto trading services domestically. The spokesperson declined to share additional details.
Ethereum’s first ZK-rollup, ZKsync Lite, to sunset in 2026
ZKsync Lite, the first zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup deployed on Ethereum, will undergo a “planned, orderly sunset” next year, with its developer stating the network has “served its purpose.”
The team said ZKsync Lite “was a groundbreaking proof-of-concept and validated critical ideas related to building production ZK systems,” adding that it “did its job: prove what’s possible and pave the way for the next generation.”
Matter Labs launched the network as ZKsync 1.0 in 2020, focusing on fast transfers and NFT minting, but without support for smart contracts. Development on ZKsync Lite ceased in early 2023 after Matter Labs introduced its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) with smart contract support, ZKsync Era.
Other ZKsync products are not affected. The team said it will provide “concrete details, dates, and migration guidance soon” for ZKsync Lite.
