Sui back online after 6-hour outage; cause still unclear
The layer-1 Sui blockchain has resumed normal operations following an approximately six-hour outage that halted transactions on the network. The Sui Foundation said the network is “fully operational” and that transactions are proceeding as expected.

The Sui Foundation acknowledged the disruption at 3:24 pm UTC on Wednesday, noting that core developers were working on a fix. The organization has not disclosed what caused the “Consensus outage,” which temporarily immobilized more than $1 billion in on-chain value and prevented users from transacting. Detailed information about this disruption was posted on the network’s status page.
According to the Sui Foundation, the issue was first investigated at 2:52 pm UTC and resolved at 8:44 pm UTC, restoring the network after 5 hours and 52 minutes of downtime.
Second major disruption for Sui since launch
The network experienced a similar problem in November 2024. Wednesday’s event marks the second major outage since Sui’s mainnet launch in May 2023.
Other high-speed networks have faced comparable incidents. Solana, which encountered several outages in earlier periods, has not experienced downtime in the past 18 months. It has previously issued emergency releases to help validators coordinate fixes for critical client-side issues, and last week the Solana Status account on X advised validators to upgrade to a version containing a “critical set of patches.”
SUI briefly rose 4% during the disruption
Sui’s (SUI) token price was largely stable after the outage was confirmed, briefly increasing 4% before returning to around $1.84, according to CoinGecko.
