Coinbase adds Blik in Poland via PPro, expanding payments

Coinbase has expanded payment options in Poland by integrating Blik, one of the country’s most widely used mobile payment systems, through a partnership with European payment processor PPro. The integration aims to simplify and speed up crypto transactions for local users.

The announcement was shared on Wednesday by Coinbase executive and NFT Paris co-founder Côme Prost, who joined the exchange in February 2024 to lead its French operations. In a LinkedIn post, Prost said that strengthening local payment rails is a priority and emphasized the role of simple, fast, and familiar methods in supporting broader crypto adoption.

Coinbase licensed under MiCA as Poland’s crypto bill stalls

The local rollout comes as Poland faces delays in passing cryptocurrency legislation amid political divisions. Last week, the government reintroduced an identical version of a strict crypto bill that President Karol Nawrocki vetoed only weeks earlier.

Coinbase holds authorization under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), which the company obtained in June.

PPro executive Tom Benson wrote on LinkedIn on Wednesday that it was a pleasure to work with Coinbase on launching Blik for Polish customers to access crypto on the platform.

Benson added that he expects the collaboration with Coinbase to deepen in 2026 as more local payment methods are added and cooperation expands into additional areas.

Poland’s crypto adoption grows despite slow domestic regulation

Crypto adoption in Poland has continued to accelerate despite slow-moving local rulemaking, with the country highlighted in Chainalysis’ 2025 European Crypto Adoption report. Poland remains the only EU member state without a functioning national framework to enforce MiCA, even though the regulation applies across the bloc without formal transposition.

“Following the president’s veto of the government’s bill, Poland is indeed the only EU member state without any step toward implementation,” said Juan Ignacio Ibañez, a member of the Technical Committee of the MiCA Crypto Alliance, in recent remarks.

Ibañez noted that not every country adopts a single implementation law, pointing to Germany and France, which have dedicated laws, while other member states such as Spain and Luxembourg rely on amendments to existing financial legislation.

He added that slower implementation does not mean countries are equally advanced, nor does it indicate that Poland is more hostile to crypto. Hungary, for example, has implemented MiCA with additional requirements that are “more unfriendly to crypto asset service providers than Poland,” he said.
