CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju criticized X for cutting the visibility of crypto-related posts while not effectively curbing automated spam, saying the platform is penalizing legitimate users instead of solving the bot issue. In a post on X on Sunday, Ju cited data indicating more than 7.7 million “crypto”-tagged posts were generated in a single day, an increase of over 1,200% from prior levels, and argued that the surge in low-quality activity has led to algorithmic actions that also impact genuine crypto accounts.

Ju added that “as AI advances, bots are inevitable,” asserting that X’s core challenge is distinguishing automated accounts from real users. He also criticized the paid verification system, claiming it has not worked as an effective filter and now enables bots to “pay to spam,” while authentic accounts experience reduced reach. Ju contended it was “absurd that X would rather ban crypto than improve its bot detection.”

X product chief says CT reach drops due to excessive posting

The remarks follow comments from Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, who said Crypto Twitter’s visibility issues are partly self-inflicted. According to Bier, many accounts exhaust their daily reach by posting or replying too frequently with low-value messages such as repeated “gm” replies, leaving less visibility when they later share substantive updates. “CT is dying from suicide, not from the algorithm,” Bier wrote, arguing that overposting dilutes reach because the average user sees a limited number of posts per day. His comments sparked debate among crypto users.

X remains crypto’s main communication platform

Despite the concerns, many crypto users continue to rely on X as their primary real-time communication channel for market commentary, project updates, breaking news and onchain analysis. Last year, X introduced a messaging feature called XChats, which Elon Musk said would include “Bitcoin-style encryption,” along with audio and video calls, disappearing messages, file sharing and a redesigned architecture built using the Rust programming language.
