MetaMask adds native Bitcoin support, expands multichain reach

MetaMask has introduced native support for Bitcoin, enabling users to buy, swap, send, and receive BTC directly within the wallet. The rollout was announced on Monday, ten months after it was first teased in February, and adds Bitcoin (BTC) alongside assets from the Ethereum, Solana, Monad, and Sei networks.

The update expands MetaMask’s multichain capabilities. The company said BTC transactions will appear in a user’s asset list once confirmed and noted that confirmations on the Bitcoin network are typically slower than on EVM or Solana networks.

The release includes incentives: swaps into BTC will earn MetaMask reward points.

Before this integration, MetaMask users could only access BTC exposure through wrapped versions. The feature was first discussed in February, when MetaMask’s Dan Finlay indicated a potential launch timeline in the third quarter of 2025.

MetaMask expands from Ethereum-only to multichain

Initially designed for the Ethereum ecosystem and EVM-compatible networks, MetaMask broadened its scope in 2025, adding Solana in May, Sei in August, and Monad in November. The company has signaled that additional networks are planned next year.

MetaMask described Bitcoin support as the latest step in its multichain strategy, following the addition of Monad and Sei earlier this year, with more networks expected in 2026.
